Singer Kalpana…..classy, sophisticated and attractive… she is the Queen of Bhojpuri music world and truly rules the hearts.She has become the favorites of music lovers with her tuneful song like “Aila re Aila” (film Khatta Meetha), ‘Ek Ooncha Lamba Kad’ (film Welcome), ‘Billu Bhayankar’(film Billu) and ‘Hotty Naughty’ (film De Dana Dan).

After gaining prestigious position as the versatile singer of Bhojpuri films, singer Kalpana has become the favorites of music directors and is the most sought after singer in Bollywood.

This Assamese girl is the darling of the North Indian belt and has been christened the uncrowned BHOJPURI QUEEN.

As Kalpana says, ANTARDWAND is finally releasing. This film got the distinction of bagging the Award for Best Social Issues in the 55th National Filmfare Awards. My mujra song - kaate na jawani hai o more raja, in this film got great applause. This song is the soul of the film.

Such forced marriages wreak huge emotional damage on both the girl and the boy. Kalpana says, I am more for the voiceless girl who is deeply entrenched in a male dominated feudalistic society where she has nothing else to fall back on.

Whether deserted or divorced -the life of a hapless girl in such a claustrophobic society becomes a hellish and endless journey. She bears the stigma of 'being married but not married'.

It is a story where everyone involved, pay a heavy price for the ugly patriarchal power play…it’s a society rotting while the country surges ahead to be a global power.

Antardwand is a film that strokes the sensitive, thinking viewer’s ire.I am so happy for the moments and proud to be part of a film with a social issue which peeps into the reality that is mofussil India, a feudal India refusing to die.

Groom abduction or “Pakrauah Shaddi” is so rampant in Bihar & Eastern UP and is touched upon in Antardwand. The film is very realistic, well made film, and more ever it’s a true story, which makes it more interesting….It brings to light that these unfortunate incidents still happen in India…True stories truly inspires me more than anything else. The true story in the film should be highlighted”…This film is getting big thumbs up from the A plus film fraternity in Bollywood.

When her other film ‘Saanncha’ was selected for The Cannes Film Festival, it added one more feather to her cap and proved a sort of milestone in her artistic career.

In one of her recent interviews Kalpana has confessed herself in these words, "In the beginning of my career as a playback singer, I had been lending my voice to all type of songs for films and albums, but I had an appetite for art films. This is a must listen song.With time, my maturity also went on increasing, along with my ambition for singing for movies which has a message of social cause.

Film on groom kidnapping

Antardwand, the much-hyped film on groom kidnapping, is finally up for release soon. The film has been in the news for bagging the award for Best Social Issues in the 55th National Filmfare Awards. The film also has a strong Assamese connection in the form of Kalpana Patowary who had sung the much acclaimed mujra number, Kaate na jawani hai o mora raja. Talking about the film, she said, “I am more for the voiceless girl deeply entrenched in a male dominated feudalistic society where she has nothing else to fall back on.”

FAGUNAHAT means

‘Fagun ke aane ki Aahat’. This season speaks about itself when it arrives through Mother Nature. Kalpana Patowary known for an incredible vocal talent has produced and rendered 6 tracks in the album.

Rangbaaj fagunwa aail - This song speak of the indication of the coming of the season and how a couple enjoys their love after a long separation. Husband has to go to ‘Pardes’ to earn money. His beloved wife waits the whole year for him to come back & this year when he returns in Holi, her happiness knows no bounds. This song also speaks of the sensusiousness, the urge of their physical union.

Ab lehu rangwa lagai – A traditional Holi song reflecting Indian tradition linking Holi to Lord Rama and Sita. Sita’s sahelis welcomes Rama to Janakpur and urges Sita to play Holi with Rama as who knows when again he will be again coming from Avadh.

Dewra rangbaaj – A spicy or a chatpata song where the lady is complaining about her brother-in-law. In Indian family – Dewar Bhabi relationship speaks in different levels, sometimes he is a son, other times a best friend with whom you can share your inner feelings also. But in ‘Fagun’ ie Holi the Dewar becomes a little flirty kind of and he teases his sister in law. This is a double meaning song.

Piyawa calcutta gaile – Many years before while speaking about the Bihar scenario, lots of young man travelled to East Calcutta for livelihood. Back home the beloved wife cries in agony. No more she can hold the pain of separation. This track captures this particular mood of that lady.

Babu Kunwar Singh – This is traditional ‘Dhamar’ a holi folk form. Here it speaks of the historical spectacle of Babu Veer Kunwar Singh of Bihar as he fought for our Nations Independence from the British. Here colors of Holi is symbolic to the bloodshed. This song salutes Kunwar Sings fighting spirit.

Ab kaha fafuwa gawata – Again, a traditional Holi composition where the song expresses the descending ‘Fagua’ tradition. Today, everywhere there is hatred among us. We are no more celebrating the human race, instead speaking of our own cult and castes. The song is trying to express the message of the unity we need today – An awareness song.

He preached Eka-Sarana-Nama-Dharma a monotheistic doctrine based on the Bhagvata Purana with Surdas, Chandidas, Kabir, Vidyapati the Maithili Poet and Lyricist, Mirabai, Narsi Mehta the poet saint and Bhakta from Gujarat, Vallabhacharya the devotional philosopher from Andhra, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu of Bengal at a time when a young 24 year old Guru Nanak was also exploring his own vision of Eka-Sarana-Nama-Dharma which he went on to preach throughout the world as “Ek Omkar Satnam”. Maa-e-Ri, the upcoming hindi music video album of singer Kalpana is already creating waves in terms of concept, location & picturization. This music video has been selected for inclusion in the esteemed Shaan-e-Awadh International Film Festival 2011. The music video will be screened to international audiences at this year’s Shaan-e-Awadh International Film Festival 2011. The festival will take place from 18th November to 20th October 2011 at Lucknow. This musical presentation is a subtle change of direction for Kalpana, who is best known for her item songs. Kalpana makes music for a cause.

Music has always been a great vehicle for a social message. And now,the latest in this well-intentioned lineage is singer Kalpana (who can forget her hit track Tere Ishq Se Meetha from film Aakrosh and Aila Re Aila from film Khatta Meetha) who is geared up for her new hindi album Maa-e-Ri.This is the first rare album on nature and releasing a full length album of 6 tracks. "There has been a cry for saving the enviornment,save the earth in the nation and worldwide. We have done a huge damage to the universe through pollution. Through this album, Kalpana is potraying herself as messenger of mankind and urging people to come together and spread the message to love and save the Nature", explains Kalpana.
