Kalpana Patowary’s tribute to Satyajit Ray in Bengali film ‪#‎HarHarByomkesh

Guwahati : Popular Bhojpuri singer Kalpana Patowary will pay tribute to iconic filmmaker Satyajit Ray in the upcoming Bengali film "Har Har Byomkesh".

Kalpana, known as Bhojpuri Queen and hails from Assam, said she will be singing a bhajan in "Har Har Byomkesh", which would recreate a scene from Ray's movie on detective Byomkesh Bakshi titled "Chirikhana".

Kalpana told PTI that she is very excited and "on cloud nine" to be part of "Har Har Byomkesh", a Bengali mystery thriller directed by Arindam Sil and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films.

The song, she said, would be shot in Varanasi.

The artist, who has acquired cult status in northern India and lent her voice for "Gandi Baat" in "R..Rajkumar', is happy to be a part of a Bengali film for the first time.

"I got a call from veteran actress Jaya Seal from Assam/Kolkata and she spoke of this film where her percussionist husband Bickram Ghosh is doing the music and there is one sequence where the director wants me to act too.

"I was a little confused when didi (Jaya) spoke about the acting part ... When I spoke to Bickram Ghosh I came to know that Arindam Sil, the director of Bengali films 'Aborto', 'Ebar Shabor' is directing the film", she said.

Sil, she said, had watched her in MTV Coke Studio singing Birha and had spoken to Ghosh about her.

"I will record the song with Bickram Ghosh in Kolkata and then go to Varanasi for the shoot. I am more than excited to be a part of the tribute to Satyajit Ray."

She said the film is based on fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi created by Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. Adil Hussain, Abir Chatterjee and Nusrat Jahan would play the lead roles.

Shinjini Kulkarni, granddaughter of Kathak maestro Pt Birju Maharaj, will do a mujra act in this film, she said.

The versatile singer has sung in 22 languages, including Bhojpuri, Assamese, Hindi, Marathi Bengali and English, in her solo musical journey.

She is at present gearing up for the October Bacardi NH7 Weekender 2015. "Once again I'll be seen with guitarist/composer Dhruv Ghanekar's new band Dhruv Voyage in the festival where over 100 artists, including A R Rahman, Mark Ronson, Megadeth and Rodrigoy Gabriella, will perform on five different stages.

But in ‘Fagun’ ie Holi the Dewar becomes a little flirty kind of and he teases his sister in law. This is a double meaning song.

Piyawa calcutta gaile – Many years before while speaking about the Bihar scenario, lots of young man travelled to East Calcutta for livelihood. Back home the beloved wife cries in agony. No more she can hold the pain of separation. This track captures this particular mood of that lady.

Babu Kunwar Singh – This is traditional ‘Dhamar’ a holi folk form. Here it speaks of the historical spectacle of Babu Veer Kunwar Singh of Bihar as he fought for our Nations Independence from the British. Here colors of Holi is symbolic to the bloodshed. This song salutes Kunwar Sings fighting spirit.

Ab kaha fafuwa gawata – Again, a traditional Holi composition where the song expresses the descending ‘Fagua’ tradition. Today, everywhere there is hatred among us. We are no more celebrating the human race, instead speaking of our own cult and castes. The song is trying to express the message of the unity we need today – An awareness song.

The music video will be screened to international audiences at this year’s Shaan-e-Awadh International Film Festival 2011. Music has always been a great vehicle for a social message. And now,the latest in this well-intentioned lineage is singer Kalpana (who can forget her hit track Tere Ishq Se Meetha from film Aakrosh and Aila Re Aila from film Khatta Meetha) who is geared up for her new hindi album Maa-e-Ri.This is the first rare album on nature and releasing a full length album of 6 tracks. "There has been a cry for saving the enviornment,save the earth in the nation and worldwide. We have done a huge damage to the universe through pollution. Through this album, Kalpana is potraying herself as messenger of mankind and urging people to come together and spread the message to love and save the Nature", explains Kalpana.
